Patch cable Cat 5 Cat5e so what is it used for and how do you install it?

Patch cables are used for cross connecting different Cat3 Cat5 Cat6 panels and punch blocks to each other using crossover cable.

Patch cable usually has an RJ plug on the end. When using Cat5 5e or Cat6 it would have an Rj45 plug with 8 wires inside it connected. You plug the patch cable into a panel in whichever port you want to connect to perhaps a router or hub or switch.

The interesting part of the patch cable use is that you can switch it from port to port should you suspect a bad connection and check out the throughput of the port. When you cable to a patch panel you connect the panel with the patch cable or patch cord.

Keep in mind that a patch cable should be flexible to keep it from breaking the small contact connection inside the RJ45 plug. If solid, and you move the plug you may crack the connection and cause intermittent problems that you may go crazy trying to find.

These are tested at assembly and are flexible just the way they should be.
